Where we walk

We are so very blessed to have some lovely places to take walks near where we live. I am fully aware that others do not have this luxury which makes me feel even more fortunate. For me these daily times outside are as much exercise for my mind as my body, keeping me mentally healthy. Time to breathe in the fresh air, the birdsong, the wind in the newly growing leaves of trees, the lapping of the water, the quiet. These are the things which feed my soul and mind. Ahhh the quiet. Giving time to let my thoughts wander, re-order, file correctly, stop whizzing round my head, exhausting me.

The silver lining to all that is presently going on, is that I’m slowing down enough to let nature in and let its balm heal. I was guilty of always being too busy and having lots of seemingly more important things to do than to take a few moments to enjoy what has been right in front of my nose. There are lots of things about this lockdown which are challenging, but this enforced slowdown is not one of them.

I have been able to note the daily bursting forth of our maple tree in the garden (always a late spring bloomer). Last Monday it had only dark red bulbous buds, today tiny frilly leaves have sprouted and I know that glorious pale pink blossom will erupt in a few days. Nature is so wonderous.

I’m rather looking forward to our walk today.
