Sarah Metcalfe, Textile Designer & Illustrator
Sarah is a highly experienced textile designer and illustrator. Her women’s wear, accessories and furniture designs sell internationally, clients include Harrods, Etro, Marks & Spencer, Mango, Champneys and Asda. She has a range of quirky greetings cards and beautiful handmade silk scarves available at the Farnham Maltings.
Sarah runs painting and textile technique workshops for beginners to seasoned painters.
The Brief
Sarah wanted a collection of brand story images to be able to promote her upcoming painting workshops, for her social media and to use on her website to showcase her greetings card and silk scarf collections.
The Solution
Sarah’s brand story needed to reflect the textural nature of her textile work and the quirkiness of her illustrations. We chose a relaxed wardrobe styled in her brand colours in which she would feel most comfortable.
I captured a range of brand story images at her Watercolour Floral Painting Workshop, featuring her teaching and the attendees painting. I also took product shots in her studio and relaxed outdoors headshots outside her wooden cabin studio and around Farnham. I married the textures of nature with a more urban feel of café’s and cobbled streets.
The Result
Sarah was quite nervous about being in front of the camera but as the shoot went on she really relaxed into it and started to enjoy herself. She was delighted with the results and the variety it gave her for her website and marketing.
“Despite having to deal with a reluctant model in myself, Esther totally put me at my ease on our recent shoot. My biggest fear was that I would look forced or fake but Esther really knew what she was doing and I started to enjoy it.”
